Biomechanical Simulation for Evaluation of Alternative Rollover Occupant Protection System Designs
نویسندگان
چکیده
The evaluation of the biomechanical performance that can be expected from alternative designs for restrained occupant rollover protection was approached through the use of finite element modeling. Finite element models of vehicle designs and the Hybrid III dummy were used to evaluate elements of alternative rollover occupant protection system designs. Results from rollover crash tests of a production vehicle were used to validate the baseline models. The alternative designs were then incorporated into the vehicle designs and comparisons of various biomechanical injury measurements of the neck were made.

Parametric Analysis of Rollover Occupant Protection Using a Deformable Occupant Compartment Testing Device
Occupant kinematics during rollover inverted impacts has been the subject of significant research. Controlled experiments have utilized complete vehicles, partial vehicles and seat/restraint systems attached to various platforms. The Deformable Occupant Compartment Impact Tester (DOCIT) was developed to incorporate functions similar to previous methods, but has added a roof capable of deforming...
متن کاملDevelopment of Madymo-based Model for Simulation of Laboratory Rollover Test Modes
Types of vehicle rollovers can be classified into two categories: untripped and tripped. Untripped rollovers are relatively rare events resulting from high lateral friction forces between the tires and road. Tripped rollovers are the result of lateral forces caused by the tire or wheel digging into the road or ground or from striking a curb or other obstacles. As reported in the open literature...
متن کاملPraxl 1 SIMULATION OF OCCUPANT KINEMATICS IN VEHICLE ROLLOVER - DUMMY MODEL VERSUS HUMAN MODEL
Two different rollover crash scenarios were simulated with the software Madymo. The vehicle kinematics in the numerical simulation were prescribed by the use of sensor signals of real crash tests. The Madymo 50% Hybrid III dummy model as well as the Madymo human model was applied to these simulations and the model kinematics were analysed and compared. Differences in the kinematics of human and...

متن کاملMatched Pair Testing of Injury Potential in Repeatable Rollover Tests with the Cris and Jrs
The availability of repeatable dynamic rollover fixtures, like the Controlled Rollover Impact System (CRIS) and Jordan Rollover System (JRS), has changed the face of rollover structural and occupant protection development and evaluation. Tests performed with these devices have demonstrated scientific principles of occupant protection and injury potential which were previously resolvable only by...
